Winterfaire: The Homecoming of the basketball season.
The winner of Winterfaire King and Queen will be crowned at the home basketball game on Friday, Jan. 27. The Varsity Girls Basketball game is at 5:15 p.m. and the Varsity Boys Basketball game is at 7:00 p.m.
The dance will be held, Saturday, Jan. 28 from 7:00-10:00 p.m at The Circus Circus Resort and Casino at 500 N Sierra St, Reno, NV 89523. Make sure to arrive on time because the doors close at 8:30 p.m. You can purchase a $20 ticket by itself or $10 shirt by itself in the library foyer at lunch. It’s $25 for a ticket and a shirt together.
Although Mrs. Moore, the leadership teacher here at McQueen, doesn’t quite know when Winterfaire became a thing she said, “I went to school here in the ‘90s and we had it, so probably since the beginning of the school.” Though other schools call their Winterfaire, “Winterfest”, we differ from them not only because of that. The other schools here in town have dances in their gym, and we have off campus dances. That sets us apart from the rest.
This year our theme for spirit week is “Toy Story”, with dress-up days including:
Monday- Cowboy Day (Woody)
Tuesday- Space Hero Day (Buzz)
Wednesday- Gender Bender Day (Barbie and Ken)
Thursday- Camouflage or Soldier Day (Army Men)
Friday- Black Out or Winterfaire Shirt
Our assembly for spirit week will be held Friday, Jan. 27, and you’ll be sure to see the Winterfaire nominees show off why each of them is the proper candidate for the crown.
