Lancers’ boys and girls basketball are both headed to the playoffs this year. The two teams squeaked in as fourth seeds.
The boys team finished the regular season 10-12 overall (according to MaxPreps) and will be playing away tonight against top-seeded Galena at 7 p.m. The Lancers will have their hands full against Galena’s star guard, 6’,6” Dillon Voyles, who was averaging more than 20 points per game in January.
“We just need to play the game at our own pace and stick to the game plan,” senior Hayden Mille said. “Galena is a big team which means that we need to play smart, and stay in control at all times.”
The Lancer girls (16-10 overall) will be going to play in hostile Manogue territory on Wednesday night at 7 PM. Senior Jasmin Gomez elaborated on some of the major keys to success for Wednesday’s game.
Manogue is seeking its third title this season.
“We just need to stay calm and play like a team, and not let our emotions get too into it,” Gomez said. “We’ve had a lot of long hard practices and this team is really looking forward to making some noise as a 4 seed in this year’s playoffs.”
Both teams were eliminated in the first round of playoffs last year.
“Overall, in the past we haven’t done too well,” Gomez said. “We lost in the first round of the playoffs last year, but that’s something we’re trying to change this year.”
