Five McQueen athletes signed with colleges today during a ceremony in the Little Theater.

Seniors Kaila Spevak, Megan Gaskill, Jordan Henderson, Kenneth Flores, and Mason Winship, signed to colleges across the country, including University of Nevada.

“It is a really exclusive group that get to go on and play in the next level,” McQueen Athletic Director Tobey Hilliard said. “So, it really is a nice honor to recognize all of their hard work and to celebrate what they’re doing.”

Here’s a list of the players, the sports they play, and which college the will play for next year:

  • Kaila Spevak, Volleyball, Nevada
  • Megan Gaskill, Golf, Eastern Washington
  • Jordan Henderson, Basketball, Arizona Christian
  • Kenneth Flores, LeCrosse, Lynn University in Florida
  • Mason Winship, Baseball, Northern State University in South Dakota

In front of friends, teammates, and parents, Hilliard introduced each player and had them each sign their letters of intent.

“It’s a lot of weight off my shoulders,” Gaskill said. “It’s really exciting for me to know where I’m going to go, just having the knowledge that I get to continue doing what I love to do.”

Gaskill finished sixth at the Northern 4A Regional tournament last month.

The other athletes said they were also excited for the opportunity to continue their sport while they pursue their life goals.

“I want to have a good career, college, and just move on in my life,” Winship said.

Winship played first base, pitcher, and was a designated hitter for the baseball team last year.

Today’s signings were a big deal to McQueen and the students.

“It feels great to represent McQueen,” Spevak said after posing for pictures with friends following the ceremony. “I love being up here with my classmates who are also signing.”

Spevak is at or near the top in several statistical categories including 105 kills, in 315 attempts, this season. She also has 101 digs and 19 aces.
