Girls tennis regional championships begin next week and McQueen is expecting to be competitive, coaches and players said.
The team wraps up its regular season at Reno High School Thursday. Entering its last game in third place, the team holds an 8-1 record. Its only loss came against Galena.
Both players and coach, Gregg Donnelly, think the team has a shot at the state competition.
“[We’re] shooting for state; at the same time developing for next year.” Donnelly said.
Senior Emma Warnick also thinks the team should be competitive at next week’s regionals.
“We have some people who won’t be there because they will be on vacation [during fall break],” Warnick said. ” But, we have a lot of depth. There’s not a lot of difference between our returners and new players.”
Warnick said the team has one more goal for the season before playoffs begin.
“We’ve always wanted to beat Galena. I think that’s been one of our goals, and beat Reno.” she said
The girls tennis regionals begin Tues., Oct. 2.
